T. Y. Kim/C. W. Kim
Abstract
The Ay phenotype is extremely rare and originally described by Weiner et al. The red cells of Ay phenotype are indistinguishable from those of Am phenotype serologically. Is Ay phenotype reveals very weak expression of A antigen in both erythrocyte and saliva with normal expression of H antigen. This condition is assumed to be caused by action of YAyA gene which are independant of ABO locus. Here we report a family in which serologically and genetically defined Ay phenotype first in Korea.
